Lake County Jail

Medications

Interview with Bee

JM: Did you always have access to necessary medications?
Bee: No. If you got hurt in the morning you had to wait on the nurse during her normal runs which for my block was around 6 pm. The only way she's coming early is if it is an emergency. They don't care though. I have asthma and I am a diabetic. They never got my medicine from my family. They tried to give me an inhaler that was there for everyone who had asthma. I don't where the other inmates mouths have been.

JM: How did you get your medications?
Bee: I never did!!

JM: What types of punishments were incurred for abuse of drugs?
Bee: There were none. People had pills for days. To stop abuse of medicine they tried to count how many ills they gave you but no matter what the number they wrote down you still were able to get more.
